Initiate Eligibility (Delta-Beta Early Access)

In order for students to take full advantage of BAP’s resources earlier, we created the Delta-Beta Early Access Program. This program allows students of Freshman or Sophomore standing to join BAP as “Initiates.” Similarly to our current requirements for membership, initiates will start by completing the “Candidate” requirements. If the Initiate fulfills our requirements for membership and completes the candidate requirements as an initiate, then they will be considered to be a “Member” upon joining.

Essentially, Initiates will be following the same timeline that other candidates would be completing to become a member. The only difference is that once they become eligible to join BAP, they will be entered in as a member if they complete their candidacy as Initiates.

To provide a better idea of how things work, we’ll use an example:

Student Z is of Freshman standing. Once accepted into BAP, although Student Z will be considered to be an “Initiate,” they must complete the “Candidate” requirements. Student Z passes the candidate requirements during their first semester. Once Student Z joins BAP for their second semester of Freshman year, they would be responsible for completing “Member” requirements. Being that Student Z already completed their candidacy as an initiate, once they become eligible to join BAP, they will be accepted as a member.

Standings

  • Initiate - Freshman, Sophomore, and IVC GAP 4+1 students that have not taken their upper division classes yet. Initiates have the same requirements as Candidates.

  • Candidate - New students that have joined Beta Alpha Psi looking to become members. (Students who are or have enrolled in upper division classes).

  • Returning Candidate - Students with this standing were of “Candidate” standing the prior semester but did not complete the necessary total hours to become a member. Students in this standing are given a second chance to become a member with a reduced hourly requirement.

  • Member - Members are full fledged initiated members of Beta Alpha Psi. They completed their hours the previous semester as a “Candidate.” Members must still complete their hours to stay in “good standing” with the chapter and organization.

  • Active 1 and 2+ - Members in these standings are members that have been “members in good standing” for 1 or 2+ semesters. As a reward, their hourly requirements have been reduced.

  • Superior Standing - Members in superior standing have gone over and beyond to attain hours. These members will be showcased on our website, announced at our Induction Ceremony, and will be given an award for their fantastic work!

Hourly Requirements

If accepted into Beta Alpha Psi, you must complete our hourly requirements to either become a member (from candidate) or remain a member in good standing. Completing these hours will ensure your progression through our chapter. It’s not only important for you to complete the hours, but it’s also important for us to complete them collectively as a chapter. In order to maintain our status as a “Gold” chapter, we must fulfill a certain amount of hours as a chapter every year. This, in part, is why we have hourly requirements.

The other reason is because these hour categories are what you should be accomplishing when recruiting for freshman programs, summer leadership programs (SLP), internships, and full-time offers. By putting in the time and effort, you are more likely to be rewarded with an offer!

We strongly encourage you to complete your hours as soon as possible. This will not only help you in becoming a member, but also with your recruiting! To help in this, the Candidate Handbook outlines all our events and specific rules, as well as a few tips to get hours fast. If you have any questions or need additional information, please feel free to contact our Candidate Relations Chair (candidaterelations@csufbap.org) and they can help with anything you need.

The hourly requirements are as follows:

Special Rules

We understand that completion of our required hours can be hard to attain in each respective category. To mitigate this and reward those that have still attained more hours, we have a few special rules:

  • Non-BAP Hours. Non-BAP Hours are for submitting hours for professional and community service events from non-BAP affiliated events, for a maximum of 5 Non-BAP Hours in total.

  • 5-Hour Carry Over Rule. Excess hours from any category will be automatically carried over to a category that needs it, for a maximum of 5 hours. This does not apply to tutoring hours.
